Profiles

A Profile of Lily Tomlin

I love writing profiles and finding out what motivates people and how they've evolved. These women were generous, funny and willing to share a lot about their pasts, as well as current projects.

Lily's Back
I was thrilled to interview Lily Tomlin—one of the funniest women on earth. She told me a lot of stories about her upbringing and described the family members and friends from her childhood who now live as characters in her one-woman show.

One-on-one with Alice Walker
The fine writer Alice Walker opened up to me about her childhood in Georgia, how she became a vegetarian and what she's growing in her own garden in Northern California.

All She Desires
The American actor Nicole Ari Parker, known mostly for her TV performances, played Blanche in a multiracial Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Emily Mann. She opened up to me about her professional and personal challenges.

Billie Jean King: Still In The Game
Billy Jean King told me that even she has trouble getting herself to exercise. She does it by telling herself she only needs to do it for five minutes, and then, well, she generally keeps going for another hour. Forever dedicated to equal rights in sports, Billie Jean has a great sense of humor and was a delight to interview for this story.
